Young Arts

Young Arts

Your child is transforming every day, so much growing, and learning begins at the age of 6 months. Students from 18 months to 1st grade are eligible for all classes in our Young Arts program.  Students in 2nd grade may choose whether to stay in Young Arts for one more year or move on to our Dance and Theatre programs. Children develop their creativity, cooperation skills, and self-awareness through play, imagination, and fun, and our popular Young Arts Programs are infused with these qualities.  Offering a wide variety of classes and camps, including dance and theatre, MoCo Arts Young Arts Programs can help your child blossom in his/her expression and confidence.

Babies Boogie, Too!

A dance class for caregivers and their infants 6 to 18 months.

Saturdays from 10:30-11:15 a.m.

Would you love to learn the language of your baby’s dance while moving in harmony together? Would you love to have a big, inviting space to play while you are devoting time to helping your infant get a great start in their development? Then this class is for you!

Babies love to clap, wiggle, shake, and move to the music even before they can stand. And neuroscience is just catching up on what we’ve known for eons: music and movement are good for their bodies and brains which are developing at an incredibly fast rate. Exposure to a wide variety of music while moving with sensory props like scarves, textured balls, and shakers provides a great foundation for babies to learn all kinds of things, from developing the language centers of the brain to building fine motor skills like reaching, grabbing, and grasping. Babies learn to creatively express themselves with confidence, curiosity, and in connection with their caregivers. Plus, class is a great way to meet other families, give yourself a little workout, and dedicate some time to bonding and connecting. We welcome the new youngest members of the MoCo family!

Please call MoCo Arts at (603) 357-2100, email info@moco.org or visit MoCo at 40 Roxbury Street, Keene, NH 03431 to register for a class. Registration paperwork can be found under the “How to Register” tab on this page. Babies Boogie, Too! runs in half sessions and costs $120 per session.

Creative Dance

Creative Dance is a fun and engaging program designed to follow the physical and cognitive development of the growing child. The course levels follow the age of the child, though it is recognized that all children develop at different rates. Please call MoCo Arts at 603-357-2100 if you are unsure of what level is best for your child.

  • Creative Dance A – Age 3: Creative Dance A, designed especially for 3-year-olds, introduces children to the fundamentals of dance (ballet, tap, modern, jazz and bop) while honoring their own creative ways of moving. While playing games, dancing with props, and listening to a variety of music, the dancers learn basic ballet positions, how to move to the beat and how to travel through the room in new ways. The class is very structured, with repetition for mastery. The fall semester is focused on technique; aspects of performance are introduced in the spring. Students are expected to be able to take the course without the consistent assistance of another adult, if possible.

The fall semester is focused on technique; aspects of performance are introduced in the spring.
  • Creative Dance D – 1st grade: Creative Dance D is designed for 6-7-year-olds. It is the most challenging level of creative dance and prepares the child to choose which type of technique they will study when they “graduate” from Creative Dance at the age of 7.
