MoCo Arts’ award-winning theatre program offers classes in Musical Theatre, Straight Plays, and Improvisation Workshops. (If your student is in 1st grade or younger, please refer to our Young Arts program.) If you are looking for current class information (Welcome Letters, Cast Lists, Tech Week Reminders, etc.), please visit MoCo’s Parent’s Page.

Musical Theatre (Runs Fall & Spring Semester only)

  • Students grades 2-5 participate in our “Elementary School” Theatre program
  • Students grades 6-8 participate in our “Middle School” Theatre program.
  • Students grades 9-12 participate in our “High School” Theatre program.

Each Musical Theatre class rehearses once a week, working together to perform in a fully produced musical. All students are cast in a role and are encouraged (but not required) to practice and audition for specific roles. Students then work together with the directors learning elements of acting, singing, and dancing to put on the production.

Straight Play (Runs Fall & Spring Semester only)

  • Students grades 6-8 participate in our “Middle School” Theatre program.
  • Students grades 9-12 participate in our “High School” Theatre program.

Each Straight Play class rehearses once a week, working together to perform a fully produced play. This class differs from Musical Theatre as it doesn’t contain any singing or dancing. All students are cast in a role and are encouraged (but not required) to practice and audition for specific roles.

Students work together with the directors to develop character, learn stage direction, and memorize lines for each production.

Improvisation Workshops

Explore the world of improvisation! This is a form of live theatre where the plot, characters, and dialogue of a game, scene, or story are made up at the moment. This class will use theatre games and scene work that challenge students to use their creative energy while having fun.
There is no performance element to these classes and drop-ins are welcomed!
