‘Give a Mouse a Cookie’ at MoCo’s Creative Dance Festival

(Keene, NH) In the final production of the 2016 season MoCo Arts proudly presents the Creative Dance Festival: Give a Mouse a Cookie on June 18th and 19th at the MoCo Arts Black Box Theatre in Keene. The Creative Dance Festival is a celebratory weekend of performances by MoCo’s youngest dancers, some just 3 years old! Students are introduced to the exhilarating world of performing arts in our intimate and supportive Black Box Theatre. A cavalcade of activities and snacks follow each performance on MoCo’s front lawn.

“The Creative Dance Festival is an exciting weekend of dance and movement” says Danielle Fitzpatrick, Artistic Director of Young Arts at MoCo Arts and Director of Give a Mouse a Cookie. “For some students this is their first time on stage in front of an audience. Not only do we practice our dances, but we also learn how to follow stage direction, be appropriately quiet backstage, and be a well-mannered performer. I tell the students, ‘We can’t watch the show because we are the show!’ ”

Give a Mouse a Cookie, based on the book If you Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff, tells the humorous tale of a mouse and a boy, and the escalating trouble they find themselves in when given a cookie. These young students interpret the story through creative movement based on many styles of dance, all while having a lot of fun on stage with their friends.

Creative Dance at MoCo is a nurturing and inclusive program that begins for children as early as 18 months. Students develop their creativity, cooperation skills and self-awareness through play, imagination and fun.
