Creative Arts at Keene (C.A.K.E.) is an award-winning, fun, and unique multi-arts summer camp that Transforms Lives! Campers explore the arts by choosing their own classes in art, creative writing, dance, drama, music, photography, technical theatre, video production, and much more.

Camp culminates in Festival Week, a week-long celebration of all the work produced by the campers. The Festival Eve Gala premieres all visual art, and Festival Day at the Colonial Theatre showcases all performing arts.

C.A.K.E. is not just for those who wish to perform. There are many class options in visual arts, creative writing, chainmail, video production, music, and much more without a performance requirement. C.A.K.E. is a place where all who are interested in the arts can come together and be their true selves.

The Musical Sr. this year will be Madagascar – A Musical Adventure Jr.

Auditions will take place on the first day of C.A.K.E. Everyone who auditions will be cast in the show. Some audition materials will be ready before the start of camp, all campers enrolled in Musical Theatre Sr. will be notified when these materials are ready to picked up. Actors must register for all 4 weeks of camp and commit to TWO PERIODS (1st & 2nd) of rehearsal time, as there will be a lot to do in a short amount of time.

Alex the lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York’s Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends – Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo – have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them. Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape – with the help of some prodigious penguins – to explore the world.

The One Act Sr. this year will be They Eat Sunshine Not Zebras

Auditions will take place on the first day of C.A.K.E. Everyone who auditions will be cast in the show.

The field believes in uniformity. Lovely rows of blades all the same height. Lovely rows of blades exhibiting standard behaviour of green grass-ness. Nothing stands in the way of their orderly life. Until they wake up one morning to see a yellow dandelion in their midst. Sunny (that’s the dandelion) is bright and warm and just wants to be friends. The field wants nothing to do with her nonstandard, non-green ways. A dandelion will turn their orderly way of life upside-down. A dandelion must be destroyed. Isn’t that what you do when something is different?

The Musical Jr. this year will be We Write Our Own Stories

Auditions will take place on the first day of C.A.K.E. Everyone who auditions will be cast in the show. Actors must be registered for all 4 weeks of as there will be a lot to do in a short amount of time.

This is your opportunity to sing and dance your way across the stage! This year’s production will be an original musical written exclusively for C.A.K.E. Campers who have some theatre experience or would like to try out theatre for the first time are encouraged to join the fun and experience the thrill of being on stage.

Camp Song

Camp Song

Chorus as introduction – slow introduction and then getting fast leading into the first verse:

Chorus/Intro:
I am here with you, you are here with me,
and we have come to celebrate who we’re meant to be.
We listen to the past to make future harmony,
this time that we’re together here,
In Creative Arts at Keene.

Verse 1:
Dawning is a new day,
where we become one.
Work and play together,
‘neath the summer sun.

Hands around the circle,
the game now has begun.
Music, art and charity,
show us how we’ve won.

Chorus:
I am here with you, you are here with me,
and we have come to celebrate who we’re meant to be.
We listen to the past to make future harmony.
This time that we’re together here,
in Creative Arts at Keene.

Verse 2:
Each path that we travel,
takes us in different ways.
Throughout the year we search,
for warmer, kinder days.

Then one day we feel it,
the warmth of summer rays.
And each one knows it’s time,
to shine with fire’s blaze.

Chorus/Intro:
I am here with you, you are here with me,
and we have come to celebrate who we’re meant to be.
We listen to the past to make future harmony.
This time that we’re together here,
in Creative Arts at Keene.

(RAP – Kids write this and should be rewritten every year)
C.A.K.E. – not the kind that you eat
but the kind where you find
the friends you’ve yet to meet
it’s where you go to dance and sing
take photos, paint and do your own thing
smile, perform, you know how
don’t forget to take a bow.

Chorus/Intro:
I am here with you, you are here with me,
and we have come to celebrate who we’re meant to be.
We listen to the past to make future harmony.
This time that we’re together here,
in Creative Arts at Keene.

(Repeat Chorus – acapella once and repeat again with music)
